One of the "Holy Grails" of tropical gardening, this remarkable species from the Araliaceae family is indigenous to the high-altitude rainforest of India. It is a remarkable plant that produces snowflake-like leaves measuring up to 50cm in diameter. As it matures, its leaves can extend up to 70cm in length but will change into a more plate-forming type. Thriving in full sun within a sheltered location, it is recommended to feed this plant monthly during the growing season. Its maintenance is comparable to that of tetrapanax. Current research on the site suggests that it can withstand temperatures as low as -8C. However, there have been instances where it has successfully endured -4C while maintaining its evergreen nature. When your plant arrives, if a plug, pot into a 9 or 10-cm pot with good quality compost, leave to grow in a cool glasshouse or warm windowsill to grow on, and plant out the following spring. If you purchase a 14cm potted plant, this can be directly planted out.

Please note when this species is very young (plug plant) It may only show a trifoliate leaf, nothing to worry about, they get that classic snowflake leaf around 4-5 leaves into its growth. Once mature it will lose this and have a leaf like a fatsia.
