The Chloranthus japonicus, is a captivating small plant originating from Japan. It features a slightly creeping rootstock and a reddish stem, with four leaves that are neatly arranged at right angles to each other. Spring and early summer bring forth a delightful spike of pure white flowers that exude a fragrant aroma. Supplied as a plug plant

With a final height of approximately 30cm, this plant is a charming addition to any garden. Even without its blossoms, the glossy, tooth-edged leaves boast an eye-catching allure, resembling the lush appearance of mint leaves. Planting this species alongside woodland subjects such as dwarf ferns and Trillium creates a captivating and harmonious display.

Not only is the Plant fully hardy, but it also exhibits remarkable tolerance, as expected from a species that has thrived since the inception of flowering plants. Optimal growth conditions require partial or light shade and well-drained, moisture-retentive, acidic compost or soil. It is worth noting that like all Chloranthaceae plants, it may require some patience to re-establish itself after transplanting, as this genus has a tendency to be sensitive to such changes and can take up to a year to fully recover.
