Melianthus major is a stunning semi- evergreen shrub with deep green, pinnate leaves with sharp serrated edges. Native to South Africa it is also known as the Giant Honey Flower due to its fragrant foliage.

 

This shrub thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, and is highly drought-tolerant. It produces bright red bracts in late summer and reaches up to 2.5m in height with a spread of at least 2m.

 

Known to survive temperatures as low as -5°C when grown in the ground. For extra protection in winter, it is recommended to provide a light mulch. If being grown in a pot, bring the plant into a cold, frost-free environment. Provide minimal water over winter. This plant is sure to bring an exotic, vibrant look to any garden or home.
